THE NEXT STEP
You have learned the system.
Now learn to teach it.
This program is designed for graduates who have shown more than technical ability. It is for people with the discipline, judgement and character to help others grow while continuing to advance their own horsemanship.
You remain a developing horseman first. Teaching practice, instructor shadowing and leadership assignments are structured around your education, with direct feedback and clear supervision.
01
Advanced horsemanship
Work with more challenging horses, refine your timing and deepen the training principles behind the method.
02
Teaching under pressure
Learn to explain, demonstrate and adapt an exercise while keeping both horse and student safe.
03
Leadership & character
Build the judgement, consistency and Christian character required to represent Smith Horsemanship
04
Business development
Gain practical insight into client care, clinics, content creation, marketing and the realities of building a career in horsemanship.
WHAT YOU WILL DEVELOP
Develop the skills to lead and instruct.

THE EARNING POINT
A successful candidate may be appointed as a paid Assistant Instructor at the start of Year 3. This allows the right person to begin earning while continuing to grow towards a Full Instructor role.
Progression is earned, never automatic. A Year 3 appointment depends on demonstrated horsemanship, teaching ability, leadership, character, reliability, available opportunities and the operational needs of Smith Horsemanship.
YOUR ROLE
Real responsibility.
Clear boundaries.
You will take part in supervised teaching and leadership practice while advancing your own training.
> Mentor and encourage first-year Academy students
> Demonstrate selected groundwork and ridden exercises
> Complete supervised teaching and coaching assignments
> Help prepare horses and training areas for structured sessions
> Assist during selected clinics, events and filming days
> Take responsibility for advanced horse-training assignments
> Participate in feedback, planning and leadership sessions
WHO MAY BE INVITED
Standards before status.
The program is deliberately small. An invitation recognises potential, but continued participation depends on performance, conduct and proven excellence.

02 Demonstrated exceptional horsemanship and sound judgement
03 Reliable, teachable and able to take responsibility
04 Show leadership potential and communicates well with others

Training and employment
What this invitation does, and does not, mean.
Participation does not automatically qualify a candidate as a Smith Horsemanship instructor and does not guarantee certification, appointment or future employment.
Candidates receive ongoing feedback. Smith Horsemanship may change responsibilities, increase supervision or end participation where safety, conduct, performance or program standards require it.
