All horses are trained by Smith Horsemanship students under direct supervision of Roan Smith and our certified instructors.

Students follow a structured program with specific goals. Every session is reviewed or overseen to maintain quality, safety, and consistency across all horses.

Roan personally manages the overall program, checks each horse’s progress, and adjusts training plans as needed.

We accept:

• Young or untouched horses needing a proper start

• Problem or nervous horses needing confidence and manners

• Previously trained horses needing refinement or better responsiveness

No stallions or horses older than 15.

We use a relationship-based, pressure-and-release method that builds trust, respect, and understanding.

We avoid the use harsh or forceful methods. Our goal is to develop a thinking, willing horse, never a fearful one.

Every horse is different. You’ll see early signs of change within the first few months, but real, lasting transformation takes time and consistency.

That’s why we offer only the full-year program, it allows us to train without rushing or compromising the horse’s development.

The program covers every major stage of training:

• Groundwork and yielding

• Desensitizing and exposure

• Softness and feel on the ground and under saddle

• Trail work and obstacles

• Rider development and real-world exposure

Each horse works through these progressively at a pace that suits its temperament and experience.

If your horse needs time off due to injury, stress, or fatigue, we’ll adjust the schedule accordingly.

We don’t push tired or sore horses. Rest days, vet-recommended breaks, or slow-rebuild periods are part of good training.

However, resting time still falls within the full-year enrollment period.

Each horse receives five training sessions per week, depending on its age, fitness, and stage of progress.

Every session has a specific goal, whether groundwork, riding, or exposure work.

Our goal is a horse that’s calmer, softer, more responsive, and safer to handle.

However, every horse is an individual, and we do not guarantee specific outcomes or timelines.

Progress depends on the horse’s temperament, history, and willingness.

Your horse will stay at our facility, where we maintain clean, safe paddocks and stables.

Turnout and stabling are managed according to each horse’s needs, with daily supervision by our team.

All horses receive balanced, high-quality feed and forage.

If a horse requires additional feed, supplements, or specialized diets, those costs are billed separately.

Owners are responsible for farrier, veterinary, dental, and deworming expenses during the program.

If a horse becomes ill or injured:

• We contact the owner immediately.

• A veterinarian is called if necessary.

• The horse’s recovery plan is adjusted, with care overseen by staff and instructors.

Safety always comes first, for the horse, students, and trainers.

Yes. Owners can visit by arrangement to watch sessions or check progress.

We encourage you to learn about your horse’s training, but all visits are supervised to keep sessions calm and focused.

We keep numbers intentionally low.

A limited number of horses ensures proper time, attention, and consistent handling for every animal in the program.

Yes. We send video and written updates periodically, showing progress and areas of focus.

You can also request an in-person update session when visiting.

Because each horse’s needs vary, the final cost is confirmed after your application discussion. The program is billed as a full-year enrollment only. Farrier, vet, and extra feed are not included in the base price.
