Level 1 – Apprentice Horse Trainer

Melissa completed the Smith Horsemanship Essential Series Program and earned her Level 1 certification through consistent effort and a steady, teachable attitude. She’s demonstrated safe, reliable groundwork and solid basic riding under supervision, which is exactly what we expect from someone stepping into the first level of our training structure.

She passed her theory and practical assessments with over 60 percent and met all the requirements to qualify. More importantly, she shows up with patience, focus, and a genuine willingness to learn from every horse she works with.

Melissa is building her foundation the right way, and it shows in how she handles herself around the horses and the team.

My Story

"My love for horses began when I was seven. I used to ride whenever I visited my friends on their farm, and those early moments sparked a passion that has never faded. Eventually I got my own pony, began competing in WMG, and later discovered the excitement of playing polocrosse.

What drives me most is the unexplainable feeling when all the hard work pays off, the quiet bond, the trust, and the pride that only a horse can give. Over the years, I’ve learned that horses are a reflection of yourself. To truly work with them, you need patience, consistency, and a willingness to grow alongside them.

My vision as a trainer is to always be the best I can be and to put the horse first. I aim to train with empathy and respect, building partnerships based on trust and understanding. My goal is to create confident horses, capable riders, and connections that last a lifetime."- Melissa Olivier, 2025
